Calling New Zealand Short Film Makers
The Show Me Shorts Film Festival is now calling for entries. The deadline is 5pm Monday the 6th of July.
This annual short film festival plays Kiwi and Australian short films between three and 30 minutes long, made within the
last three years.
Show Me Shorts will screen in cities and towns throughout New Zealand from the 5th of November. This year organisers
have also added a workshop in the three largest cities, for budding short filmmakers to learn from the pros.
Festival Director Gina Dellabarca who programs the festival says, “I’ve cleared my schedule and I’m ready for the next
round of eye-popping shorts. We’re looking for striking well made films with a strong central idea that will capture the
audience’s imagination.
The competition heats up this year with the introduction of several new award categories. There will now be awards for:
Best Film, Best Director, Best Writer, Best Student Film, Atlab Best Cinematographer, StarNow.com Best Actor, Panavision
Special Jury Prize, and Audience Favourite. This expansion aims to celebrate the wide range of talent the Festival has
seen in previous years.
Last year’s selection of films demonstrated the versatility of Kiwi short film makers and covered a wide range of
subjects and genres. Some of the favourite topics included a documentary about a busker, a sci-fi about a half-eel
half-girl hybrid, and a comedy on road rage. ‘Docu-mation’ pioneer Phill Simmonds, who won the Show Me Shorts grand
prize in the previous two years, says this year he will be stepping down to make way for new blood.
