Sail-World New Zealand: 11 March 2009

Welcome to Sail-World.Com's NZ newsletter for 11 March 2009

Late yesterday afternoon, the latest TP52, Artemis, was launched at the Emirates Team New Zealand base in the presence of a small gathering of supporters, suppliers and crew. As we mentioned on Monday she will be working up with a second TP52 from Emirates Team New Zealand.

You can see the latest pictures of both yachts by clicking here

It is a rare chance to see and compare this state of the race boat art and compare the different approach from two designers. The stern sections are of particular interest to anyone who follows yacht design.

In the Volvo Ocean Race, Ericsson 3 has extended her lead, as the yachts check out the Ice Gate, which is located at just 45degrees south - about the same latitude as Omaru. From there they dive south to Cape Horn.

On the subject of southern climes, we have a a report and pictures of Dunedin's Festival Regatta, which had some rather interesting weather to say the least, and a very healthy turnout.

On the international scene we have a report and some great photos from top international photographer Juerg Knaufmann, taken at the Ski-Yachting regatta hosted by the Swiss resort of Gstaad, and the Gstaad Yacht Club. The shots are of model yachts using an underwater camera - and are quite stunning. Click here to see more.
