For Immediate Release – Monday 2nd March 2009
Rialto Distribution’s Seraphine Wins Big
At The French Oscars!
Seraphine was the big winner at the 2009 Cesar awards ceremony in Paris on Friday 27th February.
Nominated in nine categories, Seraphine came away with seven Cesar wins including Best Actress for Yolande Moreau, Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Score, Best Art Direction and Best Costumes.
Seraphine is the true story of Seraphine de Senlis, a cleaning lady who believed God had told her she should paint. An art-critic friend of her mistress finds one of her paintings and catapults her to international success.
Rialto Distribution has the New Zealand and Australian rights to Seraphine. CEO Kelly Rogers comments, “It’s a small film, but with a heart of gold. Really reminds me of the golden age of ‘Like Water for Chocolate’ and ‘My Mother’s Castle’ types – when arthouse meant sunshine and roses with a good tug at the heart-strings”.
Rialto Distribution’s other winner at the French Oscars was the immense crowd-pleaser The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life which won awards for Best Breakthrough Performance by an Actress, Best Breakthrough Performance by an Actor and Best Editing. The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life was one of the biggest hits in France last year with over 1.4 admissions at the French Box Office.
Seraphine will premiere in New Zealand at the New Zealand International Film Festival before its general release in the third quarter of this year, at quality cinemas nationwide.
