“Love Guru” Declared “Worst Movie”

Sympathizing Over “Love Guru” Declared “Worst Movie”, Hindus Offer Forgiveness If Myers Visited Hindu Temple

Sympathizing with Hollywood celebrity Mike Myers over his “Love Guru” being declared the “worst movie” of the year, protesting Hindus have offered forgiveness if he pays his obeisance in a Hindu temple.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, who led the protests against “The Love Guru” for lampooning Hinduism starting March last, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that ksama (forgiveness) was one of the main virtues of Hindu ethics.

If Myers visited the nearby Hindu temple, paid his obeisance, expressed remorse, and assured not to denigrate Hinduism in his future movies, Hindus would not only absolve him but might also pray for his success in his future ventures if asked, Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, said.

Mike Myers dominated Golden Raspberries with “worst picture” (The Love Guru), “worst actor” (Mike Myers in The Love Guru), and “worst screenplay” (Mike Myers & Graham Gordy in The Love Guru) Razzie awards which were announced in Hollywood on February 22. Razzie awards founder John Wilson was quoted as saying about “The Love Guru”: "It was one of the big disasters of the year. He managed to offend the entire Indian population and his investors."

Rajan Zed further said that although Myer’s temple visit would not undo the damage done to the community, but it might help heal the wounds somewhat of apparently disturbed Hindu populace of the world, who numbered around one billion.

Zed argued that although various issues contributed to the failure of “The Love Guru”, but their effective protest resulting in boycott call, supported by other people of faith, was one of the major factors behind its blunt failure. He stated that it was pure and blatant ridiculing of Hinduism, the oldest and third largest religion of the world with a rich philosophical thought.

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops declared “The Love Guru” “morally offensive” and slapped it with its highest rating “O”. “Preview Online”, which calls itself “informative tool for Christian parents and moviegoers”, gave it Morality Rating of –4 (Dangerous), which is lowest of five categories, highest being +4. “Christian Spotlight on Entertainment” gave it a Moral Rating of “Very Offensive”. Crosswalk, a Christ-centered corporation, wrote in the movie review, “…slew of seriously wince-inducing jabs at India’s culture (horrible, even when meant in fun)…”
