Maserati will launch a new version of its acclaimed GranTurismo at the Geneva International Motor Show in March (4 March 2009) with the premiere of the GranTurismo S automatic, which combines to the comfort and convenience of the automatic gearbox from the GranTurismo 4.2 litre with the shattering performance of the GranTurismo S.

The Maserati GranTurismo has proven to be the fastest selling Maserati of all time, propelling Maserati to new sales records in all major markets, including Australia and New Zealand. Its Australian and New Zealand launch in 2007 enabled Maserati to enter 2008 with an order book larger than the brand’s entire 2007 sales and, despite the downturn in the rest of the car market, it enabled Maserati to end 2008 as the first exotic brand in Australia to break the 200 annual sales barrier. Such is the success of the range-topping GranTurismo S, there continues to be a waiting list for this much admired coupe.

Like the GranTurismo S, the new automatic Maserati super coupe is powered by 323 kW 4.7 litre V8 that pumps out 490 Nm of torque, but with a new version of the six speed ZF gearbox that has been praised in the Quattroporte and GranTurismo tailored for its new high performance role. The gearbox has not only been developed to handle the power of the new engine, but has also been provided with features designed to match the driving requirements of this new model. For example, kick down in manual mode has been eliminated to more accurately mimic the characteristics of driving a manual car.

The Skyhook suspension system featuring continuously adjustable dampers provides great driving comfort matched to a supremely responsive chassis. Passive safety is further enhanced thanks to the introduction on the GranTurismo range of a new generation passenger air-bag with Low Risk Deployment functionality.

Consistent with the unmistakable design of all Maseratis, the Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic features some marked stylistic differences which make it immediately recognizable: the new under-door side-skirts feature a new prominent shape, which enhances the dynamism of its profile and the 20”wheel rims with a new “Trident” design, which enhance the visual strength and elegance of the car.

Australian and New Zealand pricing and specifications for the new GranTurismo S Automatic will be announced when it goes on sale in local markets in early 2010.
