AUCKLAND, MONDAY FEBRUARY 23, 2009: MTV Networks Australia and New Zealand, today announced Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz as host of the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009. After completing the band’s European tour in late March, Wentz will head straight back to Sydney and directly into rehearsals for what will be his first international hosting gig.

“Taking part in the nominations launch last week was a blast and hosting the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009 will give me the perfect excuse to come back to this spectacular country for an even bigger party!” commented Wentz.

“Pete Wentz is an artist who truly embodies the MTV spirit. He’s a creative, charismatic musician whose appeal crosses international boundaries. Joining Wentz on the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009 bill will be performers The Killers, Kings Of Leon and Adelaide’s Sia. The Hills’ cast member and ‘It Girl’, Audrina Patridge, will host the Red Carpet.

Fall Out Boy is nominated for Best Rock Video at the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009. The band is currently on tour in New Zealand before heading on to Europe later this week.

Wentz joins previous hosts of the Australian MTV Awards including Wyclef Jean (2008), Fergie and Good Charlotte (2007), wife Ashlee Simpson (2006) and The Osbournes (2005).

Voting commences today and viewers will be able to register and place their votes online at www.mtv.com.au/vodafonemtvawards, with New Zealand viewers voting for the Best Kiwi award at www.mtv.co.nz until voting closes on Wednesday March 25, 2009.

Tickets to the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009 are on sale through Ticketek. In addition to this, five Awards ‘VIP’ packages will be auctioned from today via Grays Online. All proceeds from the ticket sales and the auction will go to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire appeal. Both Grays Online and Ticketek can be accessed online via www.mtv.com.au/vodafonemtvawards.

The Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009 will broadcast live from the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, on MTV New Zealand, Friday March 27, 9:30pm (NZ Time) Red Carpet, 10:30pm (NZ Time) main show.
