Cabbage auditions for Fringe Festival play
Do you have a cabbage that has that extra special something? Do you believe they have got what it takes to make it in the entertainment business? Then the Puriri Arts Guild is looking for you (and your cabbage)!
On Saturday 7 February at 1 pm in the Paraparaumu College Drama room there will be auditions for the role of the “cabbage” in the Puriri Arts Guild Fringe festival play sack of potatoes. A key role in the storyline the cabbage will need to possibly have had some stage or screen experience, but the producers are open to auditioning any up and coming cabbages that wish to try their luck.
A slightly shorter version of this play was performed last year in Paraparaumu. Sack of Potatoes is a play written by Clare Thorley and Caroline Wallis about a loosely connected group of people who could learn a few things about communication. Both drama teachers, the two found the collaborative writing process fun and stress free. “Clare and I have known each other for a while. We’ve got a similar sense of humour and I didn’t feel like there were two egos in the room,” says Wallis.
Since the debut of the play last year new scenes have been added to develop further characters in the play. Wallis and Thorley were also in the play, along with locals Perry Piercy, Janine Moody, Renwick Wright, Bruce Weir and Doug Palmer.
The cabbage who starred in last year’s season unfortunately left after a chance meeting with a vege stock cube, an eggplant and a can of tomatoes. Although sorely missed, the producers of sack of potatoes are confident that another cabbage will be found.
If you feel that your cabbage is right for a this play then come along to the Paraparaumu College Drama Room on Saturday 7 February at 1pm (follow the signs when you reach the college), and to check out the final product on stage, sack of potatoes will be staged at the Paekakariki Surf Club, 19 and 20 February, 8pm. To reserve a booking email caroline_wallis@paradise.net.nz, door sales also available, $10, $5 concession, $4 Fringe Addict Card Holder.
