–– Century City Developments Fashion in the Field 2009
Supreme Winner
A university graduate last year, this year a great job and a new black BMW – what more could a girl want!
Nicole Lines is 21 years of age, completed a BCA at Victoria University last year and is now working as human resources administration officer at the Department of Building and Housing in Wellington.
On Saturday (subs: 24 January) she was named Supreme Winner of the Century City Developments Fashion in the Field and Wellington Cup Day.
Nicole worked throughout her time at university, latterly at Wellington fashion store, Andrea Moore. She has always had a keen interest in fashion.
She was to enter the 2008 Fashion in the Field, but didn’t have a full driver licence, one of the pre-requisites of entry. Nicole gained her full licence on 16 December, days before pre-registering for the 2009 Fashion in the Field competition.
The new black BMW convertible, thanks to Jeff Gray BMW, will be driven by Nicole and her family – those with a driving licence.
Her family has an interest in racing and for many years Nicole has accompanied her parents to race meetings at Trentham. Her parents have a horse called Rising Star which they train at Trentham, with the help of Nicole’s 18 year old sister who has a holiday job working on a stud farm. Nicole’s 11 year old brother likes the car but is more into rugby and cricket.
In November 2008 Nicole visited her friend Hayley Pilbrow, who also worked at Andrea Moore. Hayley now lives in Melbourne where she works as an interior architect. The girls went to Derby Day, part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, and then spent days combing the Melbourne shops before Nicole found her award-winning dress in a boutique.
In black and tangerine silk, the dress is baby doll style with a sash and is designed by George Ermis. Sketches for the fascinator and bag flashed across the internet between the two girls before a design was agreed on and Hayley set to work to turn the sketch into reality. Finally a large courier parcel arrived containing a beautiful hat box in tangerine and black to match the lovely fascinator and clutch bag completing Nicole’s raceday outfit.
Nicole pre-registered for Fashion in the Field, arrived at the racecourse early to confirm her registration and then spent a few hours at her parents nearby Stokes Valley home with the fan on high so as to keep cool. She then joined her friends at the racecourse for an hour or so before the parade at 3.55 pm.
Within five minutes of winning, Nicole rang Hayley to tell her the news, but her friends had beaten her to it, flooding her with texts about Nicole’s success
Nicole had the one outfit for the day and is so pleased it suited the fine weather and very warm temperatures at Trentham.
She bought a pink, blue and white floral Karen Walker dress to wear at the handover of the BMW (subs: 29 January) – she thought it would contrast nicely with the black sapphire metallic BMW.
