Throughout the weekend in the Wellington Foyer, Level 2, visitors can explore artist Debra Bustin's Te Manawa o te Ao - a dazzling multi-coloured dome that celebrates the natural world. Ten metres wide, five metres high and made up of 105 panels, the dome features animals and plants drawn by school children from Kapiti Coast. On Saturday 17 January, hear Debra talk about her experience creating this elaborate sculpture at noon.
Celebrate the world's most massive invertebrate on Saturday 17 January with The Colossal Squid Whänau Day. See a squid dissection, find out how to survive in the icy Antarctic Ross Sea, get the kids involved in a squid dance with Felicity Frockaccino, and discover the fascinating and practical art of knot tying.
On Sunday 18 January the carnival comes to Te Papa - dress up as your favourite circus character, make juggling balls then learn how to set them spinning then enjoy local act Bundle of Sticks and watch puppet films in the Wellington Foyer.
On Wellington Anniversary Day (Monday 19 January), join Robert McGowan, a leading expert on native plants, on a special tour of Bush City, Te Papa's living growing exhibition, or get the kids in Victorian costumes and play traditional Victorian parlour games.
