As summer hots up, so does the music

The Music in Parks 2009 line up is out now, with more than 40 free concerts this summer.

This year marks Auckland City Council's 16th Music in Parks series, which showcases the best local musical talent on offer in some of Auckland's most stunning parks and reserves.

The programme has four series - Telecom Summer Sounds features award-winning artists; The Culture Garden highlights niche genres including folk music and opera; Drake Jazz at the Rotunda is perfect for jazz lovers; and Telecom Movies in Parks features films with Kiwi actors, directors and producers preceded by fresh, up-and-coming musicians.

The first concert is Telecom Summer Sounds at Myers Park on Saturday, 10 January featuring King Kapisi, Chong Nee and Opensouls, so come along and catch the local talent live.

The Music in Parks programme runs from January to April, so there are plenty of acts coming to a park near you, including Katchafire, dDub, DIE! DIE! DIE!, Tahuna Breaks and Ardijah.

Music in Parks 2009 is proudly sponsored by Telecom and Drake International, and supported by NZCT, The Lion Foundation, Perry Foundation, RadioWorks (Mai FM, Solid Gold, The Breeze, MORE FM, The Edge, Radio Live and Kiwi FM), Juice TV and George FM.

Visit www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/events for full Music in Parks details and to get a copy of the programme.
