Eyes From Ethopia online exhibition

Eyes From Ethopia online exhibition
organised by Wellington-based photographer Kate MacPherson.
Kate spent time in Ethopia getting these kids photographing their lives, and I think you’ll agree the photos are brilliant and surprising. They’re also for sale to raise funds for a children’s home, education and living expenses. I just did my Christmas shopping on this site: http://www.eyesfromethiopia.com/ - it’s a good cause, a bit like buying a live goat or whatever, except you get a great photo for your donation.
Lucien Rizos: New Zealand Photographs
Lucien Rizos has an exhibition at the Millennium Gallery: http://www.marlboroughart.org.nz/index.mvc?ArticleID=21
In 1979 Lucien Rizos set out to document New Zealand. Travelling with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Rizos toured the country, carrying his camera and shooting the people and culture that he encountered along the way. With the example of Robert Frank’s book The Americans firmly in mind, Rizos set out to represent the isolation, strangeness and tensions of social life in New Zealand.
With their unashamedly emotional tone, and sometimes harsh – more often melancholic – view of people and the rituals of daily life, Rizos’s photographs evoke a place and time that is both familiar and strange, a vision of New Zealand that remains captivating over three decades later.
Gallery hours: 11-4 Wed-Fri, 11-3 Sat Monday, Tuesday - by appointment Closed Sundays, public holidays. (Galleries may be open beyond advertised hours)
