Loop Recordings: 'Surf Aid - The Music' Released
This December Loop in partnership with Balance Vector, Quiksilver and MTV will release ‘SurfAid - The Music’.
‘SurfAid - The Music’ is a vibrant mix of conscious music brought together to increase awareness and raise funds for SurfAid International, the surfing world’s leading charitable organization.
SurfAid International was founded in Gisborne by Dr Dave Jenkins in 2000 and now has bases in Sydney and California, all with a mission to improve the health of people living in isolated regions connected near the some of the world’s foremost surfing sites.
100% of the net profits from the sales of ‘SurfAid - The Music’ will go directly to SurfAid International’s Community Based Health Programs and their Watsan (water and sanitation) Programs in the Nias and Mentawai islands, off Indonesia’s Sumatran coast.
Musicians featuring on ‘SurfAid - The Music’ include: Michael Franti, John Butler, The Black Seeds, Thievery Corporation, Kelley James, Liam Finn, Bob Marley, Crowded House with Eddie Vedder and more, with all artists donating their songs to help support SurfAid International’s mission.
The musicians and their songs were carefully selected to reflect the situation in Nias and Mentawai, and send SurfAid International’s message to a wider audience.
SurfAid International’s core goal is to empower these communities so as to foster health and resilience that is sustainable.
Currently, SurfAId International are also trying to raise US$305,000 to provide 104 facilities in eight communities in the Alasa and Afulu sub-districts. The population serviced will be 10,435 people, and average expenditure per community resident will be US$29.
“Our philosophy is a hand up, not a hand out, and we remain determined to help our beneficiaries create lasting change by using innovative strategies that drive self reliance.” - Dr Dave Jenkins, CEO & Founder, SurfAid International
The UN awarded SurfAid International the World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (WANGO) humanitarian award in 2007 and was awarded a prestigious two-year Rainer Fellowship in 2005.
