Fulsome First Fringe!
The Auckland Fringe, taking place 27th February to the 22nd of March, has been inundated with submissions, overwhelming delighted organisers.
Expectations when the registration process opened was that there might be 50 entries included in this exciting new initiative. Instead, 80 applications were submitted, approved and will take place as part of the Auckland Fringe.
The New Zealand Fringe Festival in Wellington which has been going for almost twenty years, and is considered New Zealand’s most successful Fringe programmes, has received 112 entries for 2009. This comparison shows what an accomplishment Auckland Fringe has achieved upon its debut.
The Auckland Fringe is shaped and created by the performers and their shows, the diverse and compelling submissions received means that Aucklanders are in for a smorgasbord of theatrical delights! Performances take place in locations from Pakari to Piha and everywhere in-between – no suburb is spared as the Fringe moves centre stage.
Acrobats, live music, art on lion rock, mysterious murder trials, titillating burlesque, international comedy, short stories in a sheep paddock, these are just some of the acts on offer - the Fringe has it all and then some!
Auckland Fringe is also excited to announce that they have programmed 25 performances at what will be their hub over the course of the month – The Basement. Audiences attending shows at this nerve centre will enjoy a range of cutting edge, sometimes daring performances in the heart of Auckland City.
