Maxine’s gig at the Kings Arms - Fundraiser

Maxine’s gig at the Kings Arms – Fundraiser for the Maxine Memorial Charitable Trust

BBQs, prizes, celebrity appearances and performances, and a charity auction is the way Maxine van der Velden will be remembered on what would have been her 24th birthday, with local celebrities coming out in force to support the Maxine van der Velden Memorial Charitable Trust on December 6 from 12-5pm at the Kings Arms.

Launched by Maxine’s family and Mt Eden Village Mainstreet and Business Association in 2006, the charitable trust was set-up in memory of Maxine who was tragically killed in a hit and run accident in 2004 at the age of 19.

Established to help young Aucklanders achieve their dreams, the Maxine Scholarship offers financial assistance to advance the education, development and training of promising Aucklanders between the ages of 15 and 20 years.

The Maxine Scholarship is available to youth living in the Greater Auckland region, to pursue their passions in academic fields, trade, music, drama, the arts, fashion, or sports training.

The fundraiser is set to be action packed, with a top line of musicians featuring alongside guest speakers from the trust, and the charity auction kicking off at 3pm.

Broadcaster Oliver Driver will host the auction with all proceeds going to the trust. Auction items include an Outrageous Fortune DVD box set, lunch with Harry and Fleur from Shortland St, summer wardrobes from Ruby and Moneyshop, a bar tab with the Ponsonby Social Club, Fashion Quarterly and Cleo subscriptions, a delicious City Cake cake, artwork from Tesori, a ½ day of garden landscape work, a dress by local designer Sera Lilly and much more.

Hannah Marshall, a good friend of Maxine’s and a trustee of the charity say’s of the fundraiser, “I am really excited about this event and celebrating who Maxine was as well as raising the financial support for the continuing education of these talented young Aucklanders. Maxine was the most gorgeous, generous friend and we hope to share that with as many people as possible."

So get ready for raffles, food, drink, entertainment and a lot of summer fun! All are welcome, so bring your children, partner, and friends, a bit of sunscreen and your best celebrity meeting outfit for what is going to be a day of celebration for a great cause and a dearly missed friend."
