General Manager Programming Appointment
Maori Television has announced the appointment of Haunui Royal (Ngati Raukawa, Parehauraki, Ngapuhi) to the position of General Manager Programming.
Mr Royal is an experienced, award-winning producer and director. He has been involved in the television industry for more than 20 years and, in that time, has produced and directed programmes for TVNZ, TV3 and Maori Television. His television production experience includes writing, directing and producing documentaries, reality television series, children's programmes, and entertainment shows, as well as educational resources and corporate videos. He has been recognised by the industry with awards for best documentary, entertainment, comedy and Maori programmes.
Mr Royal is a former employee of Maori Television. In 2003 he joined Maori Television as Executive Producer and was instrumental in setting up the organisation's internal programming function. He is also a former Acting General Manager of Programming, a role he temporarily filled in 2004-2005 before returning to independent production.
Maori Television Chief Executive Jim Mather said Mr Royal's extensive television production experience, creative abilities and understanding of te ao Maori would strengthen and support the organisation's goal to broadcast engaging, entertaining, high quality programmes.
"Maori Television has undergone four years of rapid growth. Now is the time to consolidate the progress made and Mr Royal's broadcasting experience will play a key role in ensuring a solid platform for further growth and development," said Mr Mather.
