SYDNEY 14 OCTOBER 2008
– The Pussycat Dolls rocked Sydney tonight with a special
performance for Xbox Sounds on the northern broadwalk of the
Sydney Opera House.
Presented by Xbox Australia and Universal Music Australia, the exclusive Sydney event was the first in a series that will see leading music artists perform at iconic Australian locations over the coming months.
The Pussycat Dolls performed five songs for the lucky crowd of 600, which consisted of adoring fans, competition winners and invited guests. The set list included new songs “When I Grow Up” and their second single “I Hate This Part” from their album Doll Domination, as well as chart topping hits such as “Buttons”, “I Don’t Need A Man” and “Don’t Cha”.
Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger commented: “We adore Australia and loved kicking off Xbox Sounds. The Sydney Opera House is a world renowned musical icon and it was a thrill to perform in such a beautiful location for our Australian fans.”
The Xbox Sounds series will continue until April 2009. Tickets to each event will be invited guests only and offered through competitions and promotions in the lead-up to each performance.
“We’re blown away at having the Pussycat Dolls perform at the kick-off for Xbox Sounds,” said David McLean, Regional Director, Microsoft Entertainment Devices Division. “They’ve set an amazing tone for the series and we can’t wait to continue with the next stage of Xbox Sounds, which shows our commitment to promoting music to fans of entertainment in all its forms.”
The Pussycat Dolls also took time-out to experience the new Xbox 360 title Lips, a brand new singing title launching in December. An exclusive Xbox 360 singing game, Lips measures both your performance and vocal ability, with wireless motion-sensitive microphones that allow you to jump around the room as you belt out your favourite songs.
The Pussycat Dolls, Nicole, Ashley, Jessica, Melody and Kimberly, are Grammy-nominated pop superstars who exploded on the music scene in the summer of 2005 with their worldwide #1 hit “Don’t Cha.” Their debut album, PCD, has sold over 7 million copies worldwide on the strength of hit singles like “Buttons,” “Stickwitu” and “Beep” and is certified 3 X Platinum in Australia. On Doll Domination The Pussycat Dolls collaborated with the hottest producers in music including Timbaland, Cee-Lo and Rodney Jerkins. The album’s first single, “When I Grow Up” has already reached Platinum sales in Australia and hit #2 on the Motorola ARIA Singles Chart. “I Hate This Part”, their new single, was the #1 Most Added song at Australian radio in its first week (Music Network).
