Bring On The Books For A Brainy Baby
Learning to tie your
shoe-laces, dress yourself and ride a bike are all pretty
impressive tasks for the average four-year-old.
However, at the age of four, Aleka Titzer was capable of reading all 314 pages of A.A Milne’s ‘The World of Pooh’, in less than two hours – a truly clever toddler, thanks to the efforts of her father, Dr Robert Titzer.
Talented toddlers and brainy babies are set to be a hot topic at this year’s ASG Parent and Child Show, returning to the ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane on 31 October through to 2 November 2008.
World-renowned, infant-learning expert, Dr. Robert Titzer will be headlining this year’s seminar series at the show, showcasing his revolutionary programme, ‘Your Baby Can Read’.
The ‘Your Baby Can Read’ learning system began in 1991 with Dr. Robert Titzer’s first child, Aleka. Through his studies, Dr. Titzer knew that a baby’s brain develops rapidly, and he wanted to make a difference in Aleka’s learning development so, he created a simple, interactive video to help Aleka recognise the written word at the same time she was learning the spoken word.
At nine months, Aleka recognised more than 30 written words. By her first birthday, she could read more than 100 words and by her 4th birthday, she could read at the 11th grade level phonetically, on par with the average 16-year-old.
According to Dr. Robert Titzer, babies and toddlers are among the best equipped when it comes to learning to read, with reading success possible from as young as three months.
“There are many scientifically proven benefits of teaching children to read at an early age, including research that indicates children perform better at school,” says Dr. Titzer.
‘Your Baby Can Read’ is designed to help babies, toddlers, and preschoolers learn to read and has captured the interest of educators, researchers, parents and media around the globe.
Growing in popularity since it was introduced to New Zealand in 2007, ‘Your Baby Can Read’ is already giving Kiwi infants and children a head-start in reading.
“We are delighted to present Dr. Titzer to thousands of New Zealand families at this year’s ASG Parent and Child Show,” says General Manager, Rebecca Stewart.
“Dr. Titzer is a fascinating speaker with lots of practical advice for parents. Everybody wants their kids to have a good start in life so his seminars are bound to be well attended.”
In addition to Dr. Titzer, the seminar stage will feature Diane Levy - Counsellor, Family Therapist and author of a range of best selling books including; “Of course I love you… now go to your room”, “They look so lovely when they’re asleep”, and her latest achievement - “Time Out for Tots, Teens and Everyone in Between.”
Further seminar sessions will cover topics including; understanding baby-body-language signs; infant nutrition; safer sleeping for babies; and winding your baby.
“The show covers every baby base and offers a one-stop-shop for parents experiencing this particularly special phase of life,” says Rebecca Stewart.
The ASG Parent and Child show is being held at the ASB Showgrounds from 31 October – 2 November 2008 and will showcase a huge range of products and services for families and expectant parents. Celebrating its 15th year, the 2008 Auckland show expects over 300 exhibitors and 14,000 visitors.
