It's time to get drawing again ! The inaugural
National Drawing Award in 2006 proved hugely successful,
highlighting the depth and skill of drawing practice in New
Zealand. The National Drawing Award is back in 2008 and
growing. New Zealand's leading independent contemporary art
spaces, ARTSPACE, Auckland and The Physics Room,
Christchurch are pleased to announce that Enjoy Public Art
Gallery in Wellington is joining the line up for the
National Drawing Award's tour this year. The exhibition will
now travel the length of the country, from Auckland to
Christchurch and on to Wellington.
Entry forms for the National Drawing Award 2008 are now available to download from the websites of ARTSPACE, The Physics Room and Enjoy Public Art Gallery forms can also be collected from the galleries. The competition is open to anyone with an artistic practice who lives permanently in New Zealand or has New Zealand citizenship. Drawings must be A4 size, unframed, accompanied by an entry form delivered by post to ARTSPACE before Friday 10 October 2008.
All entries will be exhibited at ARTSPACE, The Physics Room and Enjoy Public Art Gallery. A jury of contemporary art professionals will select the winner: Brian Butler (Director, ARTSPACE), Kate Montgomery (Director, The Physics Room) and Siv B. Fjærestad (Curator and Manager, Enjoy Public Art Gallery). The jury prizes will be announced at ARTSPACE's opening on 28 November 2008. The audience will decide on the People's Choice Award, which will be announced at the closing party on 7 February 2009 at The Physics Room. The 2008 total prize pool includes a total of $5000 cash, $800 of credits at Gordon Harris and the opportunity to make a t-shirt with RVCA.
