'Deborah Barton - New Work' 20 September - 11 October
'Teenage Dream House' Burnished Aquatint by Deborah Barton, 2008. From an edition of 15. Size: 330 x 340mm
*****
Opening on Saturday 20 September at Solander is a show of new work from Wellington based printmaker Deborah Barton.
Building on her reputation for softly drawn images of moments frozen in time, Barton brings us a selection of intriguing
new narratives to unravel. Through her choice of imagery, the artist invites us to cast our minds back to long summer
days perhaps punctuated by a swim, the school fair and the clack of the raffle wheel or freewheeling around the
neighbourhood under a crisp night sky.
Barton grew up in Marlborough and then studied printmaking under Marilynn Webb at the Otago Polytechnic School of Art,
graduating in 2002. She frequently uses an etching process that produces a darkened background from which the image is
scraped and drawn.
Recently Deborah has featured in a number of award exhibitions including the Norsewear Art Award, The NZ Painting and
Printmaking Award and the National Drawing Award.
You are warmly invited to join us at the exhibition opening on Saturday 20 September from 1 - 3pm.
