‘Like David to Michelangelo, I am her creation!’
Sell-out hit “ON THE CONDITIONS AND POSSIBILITIES OF HELEN CLARK TAKING ME AS HER YOUNG LOVER” comes to the North Shore
ON THE CONDITIONS... is an anarchic and incisive PowerPoint-driven satire on contemporary politics and the hopes and dreams of the passionate but confused Rogernomic generation. Performed by Billy T Award Nominee Arthur Meek, Downstage Theatre hosts the overeducated, under-achieving, free-market Casanova as he charges through the pop-cultural slipstream to prove his amorous point.
In 2005 ON THE CONDITIONS AND POSSIBILITIES OF HELEN CLARK TAKING ME AS HER YOUNG LOVER was published as a philosophical booklet by the elusive Balclutha author Richard Meros. Described by The Guardian Weekly as ‘best avoided by the squeamish’, the book outlined a pathway to intergenerational political passion via a cod-academic treatise upon MMP and desire. And ringworm. And the erotic Zen of Act MP Ken Shirley.
In 2008, this booklet has formed the basis a sharp and incisive satire about love, power and the Rogernomic generation. Described by The Listener as ‘Brilliant. Absurd. Delightful.’, the lecture proves, step by logical step, that Helen Clark not only wants a young lover, but needs one to secure political victory and herald a new golden age for New Zealand culture and society. Furthermore, the gentle knight to Helen's Warrior Princess is, by rational necessity, Mr. Richard Meros.
The show will be touring around New Zealand up until the 2008 General Election, at which point it becomes functionally obsolete.
ON THE CONDITIONS…plays at The PumpHouse Theatre from Thursday 2nd October till Saturday 4th October all 8pm shows. Tickets can be purchased online at www.pumphouse.co.nz or at The PumpHouse Box Office or by phone at (09) 486 2386.
