GUY SHERWIN TONIGHT!!!
A final reminder about tonights performance by Guy Sherwin (UK) with partner Lynn Loo. Guy is quite simply one of the greatest film artists of all time. Tonight is a must see!!
Like a blast of cinematic conceptual art, film artist Guy Sherwin's hand-crafted films explore the elements of film's grain, tone, flicker, sound, light and space. Beautiful, enigmatic, and sensual, these experimental films question our perception of 'light moving in time.' Together with partner Lynn Loo, Guy creates cinematic environments of incredible purity and beauty.
Guy Sherwin studied painting at Chelsea School of Art in the 1960s before becoming closely associated with the British avant garde film movement centred on The London Film-makers Co-operative in the 1970s. Sherwin taught printing and processing at the London Filmmaker's Co-op (now LUX) during the mid-70s. His films have been widely exhibited in England and abroad, as part of 'Film as Film' Hayward Gallery 1979, 'Live in Your Head' Whitechapel Gallery 2000, 'Shoot Shoot Shoot' Tate Modern 2002, 'A Century of Artists' Film & Video' Tate Britain 2003/4; also shown on BBC2, Channel 4 and Arte TV France. Solo shows include San Francisco Cinematheque, LUX London, International Film Festival Rotterdam and Image Forum Tokyo. Guy’s visit co-incides with LUX releasing a book and DVD on his work entitled Optical Sound Films 1971 – 2007.
