Ahh, Cienna: Brown Brothers introduces chilled red at Auckland Food Show
New sparkling sensation, Zibibbo Rosa, also on offer
Aucklanders with a taste
for the new and unique will have the chance to experience a
New Zealand exclusive at the Brown Brothers stand during the
upcoming Auckland Food Show.
The show is the first chance for New Zealanders to taste Cienna, a chilled red wine exclusive to the family-owned Australian wine company and one that will not officially hit the shelves until September.
Cienna is a truly unique New World grape variety, bred in Australia by crossing Cabernet Sauvignon with the Spanish variety Sumoll, and Brown Brothers is the only winemaker to produce wine from the grape.
Brown Brothers CEO, Ross Brown, says the first vintage of Cienna sold out at the company’s cellar door.
“We took that as a sign there is a demand for this style of wine. Since then we’ve expanded production and Cienna will be available in traditional wine and liquor outlets around New Zealand from September this year.
“So visitors to the Auckland Food Show are getting a sneak preview,” says Ross.
“Cienna fits in our range between two very successful wines New Zealanders are already familiar with, Moscato and the chilled red Dolcetto & Syrah.
“Our approach with Cienna was to make a wine somewhere between the two. Cienna has more sweetness and less tannin than Dolcetto & Syrah, as well as being lower in alcohol, matching Moscato at around 5 percent.”
With its deep beetroot red colour, sweet cherry and fresh berry fruit flavours, Cienna is as dramatic on the eye as it is on the palate. It is ideally suited to game dishes, desserts with berry and fresh fruits, or alternatively a Thai duck curry or spicy lamb vindaloo, with the sweetness of the wine counterbalancing the hot chilli.
Visitors to Brown Brothers Stand 453 can also sample Zibibbo Rosa, an exciting new sparkling wine that is deliciously fruity, delicately bubbly and comes in a subtle pink blush.
The name Zibibbo is the Italian synonym for the Muscat of Alexandria grape, a fruity grape variety from which the sparkling is predominantly made (Rosa is Italian for pink). The wine is balanced off with a soft dry finish.
As well as Cienna and Zibibbo Rosa, Brown Brothers will be offering Auckland Food Show visitors tastings of Crouchen, Vermentino, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon from their extensive range.
