MYSTIC MASSEUR (FEATURE FILM) – Sunday August 17 at 9.00 PM

The comic novel by V.S. Naipaul moves between farce and acerbic social commentary on Trinidad, the country of his birth. The film is about a frustrated writer of Indian descent who rises from an impoverished background to become a successful politician, on the back of his dubious talent as a ‘mystic masseur’ – a masseur who can cure illnesses.

VOICES FROM THE HEARTLAND - THREE FINGERS (INTERNATIONAL DRAMA) Tuesday August 19 at 8.30 PM

Duvik is retired and fond of pottering in his woodworking workshop. When he saws off three of his fingers, Ofra, his faithful wife, rushes him to the hospital, but in the emergency room realises that she left the bag containing the amputated fingers in the car. When she goes to the parking lot to fetch the fingers, she’s surprised to see her car driving away. She jumps into a waiting taxi and begins a chase after the fingers with the foul-mouthed driver. An entertaining road movie about couples, marriage and love.

WARRANT OF FITNESS – Tuesday August 19 at 8.00 PM

Dr Rawiri Jansen looks at the health issues that affect our nation. Tonight: Iriti, a cancer survivor, is an advocate for Rongoa Maori – Maori medicine. She has established a clinic Karinga Koutu Marae - and the patients are flocking in large numbers.

FAMILY AT WAR (NZ DOCUMENTARY) – Wednesday August 20 at 8.30 PM

A documentary about the Kareko whanau, the largest family contingent ever to be sent to war since the renowned Maori Battalion of World Wars I and II. All seven family members from the sleepy Northland township of Kaeo served in the New Zealand military as United Nations peacekeepers in battle-scarred East Timor.

HUNTING AOTEAROA – Thursday August 21 at 9.30 PM

Series finale! Howie Morrison Junior hosts this unique show for hunting enthusiasts. Exotic locations this year include: Great Barrier Island, Waitomo, and a foray across the ditch, to Murrurundi, New South Wales. In this final episode we find out about the inspiration for making the series, and the highlights of the season.

Series finale! Maori Television’s warm and witty chef Pete Peeti is back with one final tasty episode dishing up more mouth-watering servings of his tasty food show. Tonight: Pete is in Twizel at the Summer Salmon and Wine Festival, where he is treated to some of the freshest king salmon around.
