NZIHL Round 8 Results
Round 8 of the NZIHL continued this weekend with games in Queenstown and Auckland.
The Weekend began on Friday night with the Southern Stampede at home to the Dunedin Thunder.
The first period was very closely fought, with the Dunedin Thunder showing great growth since the teams meet in Round 3 of the competition, and showcased the skill level of the Thunder Goalie Mansfield keeping the Stampede to 2 – 1.
In the second period the Southern Stampede came out and played like the team that won the NZIHL Championships in 2005 and 2006, with Captain Simon Glass leading the way with a hat-trick of goals that saw the Stampede leading at the end of the second period 6 - 2.
Another strong defensive period by the Thunder and Mansfield saw them keep the Stampede to one goal in the final period.

The First game on Saturday saw the Botany Swarm at home to the West Auckland Admirals.
Period 1 was even until 5 minutes left when the Swarm scored 3 times by KC Ball, Joshua Hay and Sebastian Dahlström.
Apart from a quick goal at the start of the 2nd period by Adam Carlzon the second period belonged to the West Auckland Admirals drawing the game, the scorers for the Admirals were Jason Toovey, Freddie Jigmalm, Alex Gäfvert and Danny Smith.
In the 3rd period both teams had their chances but it was the Swarm that managed to score first by Sebastion Dahlström, shortly after he scored his hat trick. At this stage the Admirals had nothing more to add and bad discipline during this period cost them dearly. The last goal for the Swarm was scored by Joshua Hay.

The second game in Queenstown saw the Dunedin Thunder come out firing, and saw a very even first period ending
0 – 0.
The second period saw the Stampede fulfil the potential that the team show on paper and seemed to grow in confidence with each goal, apart from two defensive lapses letting the Thunder score in each period

In this game the Botany Swarm Goalie Zak Nothling was showing his outstanding goal keeping abilities. Despite the West Auckland Admirals putting more shots goal than the Botany Swarm, they only managed to score once while the Swarm scored 9 times.
This time the Admirals were unable to come back from a 3 - 0 deficit after the first period and only managed to hold them out in the second period.
In the third period the Swarm put no doubt to the result and scored a further 6 times.
Final score Botany Swarm 9 – West Auckland Admirals 1.
