Performing arts students offered chance to Stand Up! Stand Out!

Young people from across the Auckland region who are into music and dance are being given the opportunity to shine at the Manukau Secondary Schools Performing Arts Awards.

The annual awards celebrate excellence in music and dance, from contemporary to jazz and hip hop and are open to talented solo performers as well as to dance groups, choral groups and bands.

Heats will be held on 8, 15 and 22 August at the Otara Music Arts Centre and entry forms are now available.

Arts Events Manager for Manukau City Council Chantelle Whaiapu says the performing arts are extremely strong in the Auckland Region.

“Every year we are blown away by the talented young people who enter the awards. They put in hours of practice, are passionate about what they do and really show their stuff,” says Chantelle.

“A lot of credit goes to the teachers and tutors as well. Everyone will be proud when they see the students get on stage representing their school!”

Guaranteed to be a night of high energy and outstanding performance, the final and awards night on 5 September is open to the public and provides a great chance for students to perform in front of a crowd.

This year, prize money of over $7000 is offered to schools ready to take up the challenge.
