Auckland Museum Reveals Its Secrets
Auckland Museum Reveals Its Secrets
Hidden backstage at Auckland Museum are 98% of the close to 5 million objects the Museum has been caring for throughout its history. From July 12th, a host of these treasures will be shared with the world when the free public exhibition, SECRETS REVEALED: The backstage mysteries of our Museum opens in the Exhibition Hall.
Over the last year, all these objects have been welcomed home to their new state-of-the-art storage areas under Auckland Museum’s new Dome.
Many had been waiting for years for their moment to shine – they thought they had it when they were finally welcomed home from off-site venues to great fanfare a year ago. But they again found themselves hidden away, unable express themselves in the same way as the stars admired by the public in the “official” galleries.
Then, an incredible opportunity was given to these objects. The Vatican exhibition was cancelled and there was no exhibition to enhance the coming winter!
The Objects seized the chance of a lifetime and decided to put themselves front of the scene, but instead of showing themselves by so-called categories, they decided that they would not just share their stories, but they would also reveal just what happens to them when they get to the Museum. In doing so they would take the initiative of exhibiting themselves in the most original manner and create a show as never before.
