The Movember Foundation statement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

10 June, 2008

The following statement has been issued by The Movember Foundation.

At the conclusion of last year's Movember campaign, as part of our annual due diligence process we invited the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand (PCFNZ), along with other high profile New Zealand charities, to submit proposals as to how they would best spend any future funding generated by the Movember campaign. This process enables the Movember Foundation to review all options and ensure that the funds raised in New Zealand will generate the very best outcomes for men’s health overall in New Zealand.

Unfortunately the PCFNZ had no plans in place for future funding.

The Movember Foundation did however receive two outstanding submissions from world class New Zealand charities. The plans detailed some exciting programmes that will further improve the state of men’s health in New Zealand. While the details of Movember’s new partnerships are currently being finalised, we look forward to officially announcing them in the coming weeks.

Movember’s only requirement of the PCFNZ (and all other Movember beneficiaries) is to tell us where donations are being spent. Without that, how can we share the good news with the tens of thousands of Mo Bros, Mo Sistas and their supporters?

We are sorry to learn that Barry Young, CEO of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand, so strongly disagreed with Movember’s decision to include other worthy men’s health initiatives. We wish the PCFNZ well with its initiatives made possible by the $3 million raised by the Movember campaign thus far.
