World premiere of digital animations in New York
Two lecturers head to New York tomorrow to ready their digitally animated shewolves for a world premiere.
The large digital animations, or arias, will be projected onto trees, stone walls and water set to music by Italian
composer Walter Branchi.
“The four arias represent each of the elements of nature; coming together to awaken the ancient spirit of the SheWolf
upon the walls of Castle Clinton, at the junction of the East and Hudson rivers in Battery Park, Manhattan,” says School
of Architecture Associate Professor Daniel K Brown.
Associate Professor Brown and Lecturer Erika Kruger have created the contemporary art and sound installation ‘She Wolves
from the Tiber to the Hudson: Four Arias from Dark to Light’ for the opening night of the New York City River to River
Arts Festival 2008 on 29 May 2008 at 9pm (local time).
Ms Kruger says this second installation builds on from an earlier collaboration with Associate Professor Brown in 2006
in Rome at the Midsummer’s Eve Arts Festival.
“The installation experiments with the connection of the shadow to narrative, mythology, art and architecture."
The four elements are represented by the moon (air), a sunrise (fire), ripples (water) and the stone walls of the
national monument Castle Clinton (earth).
