The Southern Cross Novel Challenge Kiwi Writers Inspiring The World


Wellington, New Zealand - 5 May 2008

In the dreams of thousands awaits the unwritten novel. This June those novels will become a reality.

The Southern Cross Novel Challenge (SoCNoC) follows in the footsteps of National Novel Writing Month, the largest writing contest in the world, to encourage aspiring novelists from New Zealand and around the world to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. At midnight on June 1st challengers will begin to feel the determination and excitement that will get accompany them on their creative adventure. By 11:59pm on June 30 many of them will become novelists.

In 2007, the first year of the challenge, 60 participants took part and collectively wrote almost 1 million words. Kiwi Writers, the New Zealand based online writing community that hosts the event, is expecting around 100 participants to write well over 1 million words in their journey for novelling glory.

Participants of all ages will exercise their imagination and challenge themselves to achieve what they never thought possible. With one 1,667 word day at a time participants will learn about writing fiction and about themselves.

"Kiwi Writers is about inspiring people to write and to have fun with writing," says Kiwi Writers founder, Kerryn Angell. "SoCNoC is the biggest event we have to introduce people to writing and achieving their dreams."
