NorthTec students line up for International Rally of Whangarei
Students from NorthTec, Northland’s
leading tertiary education provider, will be involved in a
variety of operational and support roles when the NAC
Insurance Hella International Rally of Whangarei takes place
in June this year.
Students from automotive, business and tourism courses have the opportunity to work alongside rally officials, volunteers and teams as part of NorthTec’s sponsorship of the FIA*-sanctioned event.
Laurie Brenssell, chairman of the rally’s organising committee, says the sponsorship arrangement offers NorthTec’s students a range of experiences. The commercial arrangement also includes the naming of a key rally stage, the NorthTecWaipuCavesstage.
“The intense pressure of helping repair a damaged rally car in time for the next stage is something outside the everyday experience of an apprentice panel-beater, but by working with rally teams during the Whangarei Rally, NorthTec’s students are sure to benefit from this real life knowledge,” says Brenssell. “And business and tourism students will assist in key areas such as the media office and rally headquarters.”
“Our people are looking forward to working with the young people put forward by NorthTec, as it’s very much part of our philosophy to involve the community in our event in as many ways as possible,” concludes Brenssell.
NorthTec’s chief executive Terry Barnett is equally enthusiastic about the link with the Whangarei Rally.
“NorthTec is delighted to be an associate sponsor of the NAC Insurance Hella International Rally of Whangarei. This is a major event in the district's calendar of activities and it gives a range of NorthTec students the chance to be associated with a prestigious international event during their studies at NorthTec,” says Barnett.
