Records & Archives Week starts today
Records & Archives Week launches today, with archives and records organisations across the country demonstrating the importance of records, archives, and the recordkeeping professions.
The theme for 2008 is ‘protect your records’. The programme aims to reach individual members of the public as well as organisations. Losing family records like photographs and personal papers can be tragic. Losing business records like contracts can be very expensive. Yet there are simple things you can do to protect your records and professionals like archivists and records managers can help you to do it.
Archives and Records Association of New Zealand President Joanna Newman said ‘Everyone keeps records of some sort. They might be files, photographs, or plans. They might be electronic documents, emails or videotapes. The thing they have in common is that we would hate to lose them, whether for business survival or family history reasons.’
In Wellington, archivists and records managers have organised a ‘Records & Archives Roadshow’ where the public can bring along their personal records and archives and get advice. Other activities include exhibitions, lectures, open days & workshops from Auckland to Christchurch via Taupo and Bulls!
