Two Shows, Two Languages – One Presenter

PUBLICITY RELEASE
TUESDAY APRIL 29 2008

Two Channels, Two Shows, Two Languages – One Presenter!

One of Maori Television’s leading bilingual sports broadcasters is fronting two separate sports shows on two different channels – in two languages!

Te Arahi Maipi (Waikato – Ngati Mahuta, Ngati Whawhakia, Ngati Koroki Kahukura, Ngati Tipa) is the anchor of sports review-preview shows BOIL UP REHEATED (Wednesday at 8.00 PM on Maori Television) and TE PAE HIHIIRI (Thursday at 9.30 PM on Te Reo).

The 27-year-old ‘statman’ has notched up an impressive list of presenting credits including Maori Television’s coverage of the Tri-Nations and ANZAC rugby league tests; New Zealand’s national rugby league premiership; NZ Maori versus Cook Island league series in 2005 and 2006; and last year’s rugby league review-preview show BOIL UP.

Previously a sports reporter for Maori Television’s daily news programme TE KAEA, Maipi also presented the channel’s recent free-to-air coverage of the Harvey Norman NZ Breakers home games in Australia’s National Basketball League as well as David Tua’s comeback campaign in the USA.

While both new sports shows are studio-based panels, BOIL UP REHEATED is presented in the English language on Maori Television while TE PAE HIHIIRI screens on Te Reo in 100 per cent Maori language with no subtitles or advertising breaks.

Maipi – who grew up playing rugby league for Taniwharau in the Waikato throughout the age grades – says the two weekly programmes will review and preview all the action from the major sporting events with a particular focus on rugby and rugby league.
