PRESS RELEASE – Monday 28th April 08
NZ MUSIC MONTH AT RADIO ONE
100% NZ MUSIC WEEK. 5th – 12th MAY 08
NZ Music RULES!! That’s why Dunedin’s Radio One is fizzing at the bit to bring you 100% NZ music from Monday 5th – Sunday 12th of May as part of NZMM. There’ll be loads of interviews with your favourite NZ acts, Kiwi albums up for grabs and a full-on aural appreciation of music made in Dunedin & further beyond in the land of the long white cloud.
LIVE ON ‘THE LOCAL’ 91FM 7pm THURSDAYS
But the action doesn’t stop there friend. Tune in during May for very special live performances on our NZ Music show ‘The Local’ with Dave, every Thursday at 7pm. You’ll be getting your solid fix of live – direct from the Radio One studio – Dunedin performances. The schedule is as follows;
7pm - Thurs 1st May – UNDERTOW
One of Dunedin’s premier emerging D / dubstep producers. He’s supported some uber National/International talent including DJ Fierce, Concord Dawn, A-Sides, D-Bridge, Amit, Bulletproof, dDUB, Klute, Vanadis, Teknik, Trei, amongst other DJ’s from around New Zealand.
7pm - Thurs 8th May – DELGIRL
A female trio that plays skiffily, folky, country, jazzy, bluesy roots music with a Pacific edge. These three Dunedin based women musicians and songwriters have been making music together since 2000. In November 2007 they released their debut album “Two, Maybe Three, Days Ride”. They sing really pretty.
7pm - Thurs 15th May – SONIC SMITH
Loving raspy distorted synths and glitchy beats from one of this cities hottest electro artists. 8 years after frying his cerebrum, digital music has enabled new neurons to grow and he now has up to 96% of his brain fully functional – just in time for NZ Music Month shenanigans.
7pm - Thurs 22nd May – THE TWEEKS
Dancy-fuzzy-guitar-pop from four charming young men who are going from strength to strength. They play up-beat music influenced by Sixties English pop, Eighties Dunedin and Manchester bands, Early-nineties Britpop and grunge, and Indie bands from the US and Canada of the last 15 years. Their New sophomore album is out soon.
7pm - Thursday 29th May – ALASTAIR GALBRAITH
One of the countries most admired & important experimental musicians. Through time Alastair was part of several music projects including Handful Of Dust & Plagal Grind. His new album ‘ORB’ has just been released on his own label Nextbestway.
So it’s looking pretty slamming here in the month of May. For those outside of Dunedin please feel free to hook into our webstream – available from our homepage www.r1.co.nz
