Rolling Stones/Martin Scorsese SHINE A LIGHT

Tickets for the long-awaited Martin Scorsese film of the Rolling Stones performance event film SHINE A LIGHT will be on
sale at selected cinemas this Thursday, May 1.
In keeping with its nature as a concert film, SHINE A LIGHT will screen only on big screens and only for a limited
season. The film’s distributor, 20th Century Fox NZ, advises that due to the limited season and number of seats that
booking in advance is essential.
The film opens on May 29 in Auckland at the Imax cinema in the SkyCity Queen St complex (the biggest screen in the
country, with 12,000 watts of sound); in Wellington at the Embassy (the capital’s biggest screen with a huge 20,000
watts of sound) and in Christchurch at the Cinemaxx screen at Hoyts Riccarton (the biggest screen in the South Island).
The season will run for one week from May 29 and will comprise seven evening shows and a matinee show on Saturday and
Sunday. There are 3,900 seats available in Auckland, 6,300 in Wellington and 4,100 in Christchurch. This exclusivity
reflects the unique concert quality of this film – of its 122-minute duration, 100 minutes is the Rolling Stones in
action on stage, the cameras transporting the audience to the best seats in the house. SHINE A LIGHT also contains
archival documentary footage of the Rolling Stones and behind-the-scenes humour involved in making the film.

NEW ZEALAND CONNECTION: Of the 17 international cinematographers Scorsese assembled to capture the Rolling Stones in
performance, three have strong New Zealand connections:
New Zealander Stuart Dryburgh – Oscar nominated for The Piano, his recent film The Painted Veil is now in NZ cinemas.
Australian Andrew Lesnie – Oscar winner for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong – all made in Wellington and
directed by Peter Jackson.
American John Toll – Oscar winner for The Last Samurai, starring Tom Cruise, which was filmed in Taranaki, also
Braveheart.
The team of cinematographers was led by Oscar winner Robert Richardson (The Aviator, JFK) and also includes Oscar
nominees Robert Elswit (Magnolia, Goodnight and Good Luck), Emmanuel Lubezki (Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate
Events, Sleepy Hollow, and Ellen Kuras (Summer of Sam, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).
The New Zealand premiere of SHINE A LIGHT on May 28 at Imax in Auckland will benefit the Raukatauri Music Therapy
