Little Town, Big Gig with opshop
Telecom and NZ Music Month announce Little Town, Big Gig with opshop
PRESS RELEASE - EMBARGOED UNTIL MONDAY
APRIL 28
Telecom and NZ Music Month are absolutely stoked to announce Little Town, Big Gig - the official closing of NZ Music Month 2008 with one of NZ's best-loved bands, opshop.
Opshop's double-platinum album Second Hand Planet is currently at number 8 in the NZ Album Chart after an impressive 47 weeks, and has spawned the huge singles Maybe and One Day. There's no-one better to end another massive month for NZ Music, and no better way than to do so than ask the public to choose where it takes place.
Tell us why the band should travel to your town to play and where the gig should take place and you'll be in the running to see the country's biggest show that night in your rugby club, tearoom, school hall, or some other place so good we'll only know it when we see it.
Visit http://www.telecom.co.nz/opshop, let us know your suggestion about where and why Little Town, Big Gig should take place by Friday May 23rd, and the following Monday opshop, Telecom, and the folks at NZ Music Month will choose their favourite entry and get the band on the road for the official closing show.
"Opshop have already played the length and breadth of NZ but never done anything like this before" says front man Jason Kerrison, "we can't wait to see the entries from NZ music fans around the country and look forward to playing wherever the call comes from"
"Since NZ Music Month is celebrated all over it's great to have an event that could happen anywhere in New Zealand," NZ Music Month Manager Steve Newall adds. "Like opshop we're eager to see where local music fans think it should take place and are keen to hit the road and get to the gig!"
Telecom's Marketing Guy David Craig says Telecom is looking forward to seeing the nominations roll in for Little Town, Big Gig. "We're expecting Kiwis will give us some great venues and towns to pick from, I'm keen to see a big woolshed or somewhere equally as unique get the nod, it would make for an incredible concert."
Stay tuned to C4 and The Edge for updates, prizes and the big news about which little town will get the Big Gig , and click http://www.telecom.co.nz/opshop and http://www.nzmusicmonth.co.nz for more info.
