More Mean Sports Stars On Hyundai Code – On Maori Television!

Former Silver Fern and current Northern Mystics player Temepara George joins Beijing-bound triathlete Sam Warriner and reigning Oceania women’s snooker champion Ramona Belmont as special guests on award-winning sports entertainment show HYUNDAI CODE this Thursday April 24 at 8.30 PM (repeats Sunday April 27 at 4.00 PM).

Without doubt one of the most dynamic players in the game today, netball mid-courter George brings real class and experience to her team, the Northern Mystics. In the national squad from 2000 to 2006, her career highlights include winning gold at the World Champs and Commonwealth Games. George’s strengths are her speed around the court as well as her ability to read play – and make the big intercepts that can turn a game. She will be a lynchpin in the campaign for Auckland to take a finals spot in the ANZ Championship.

Sam Warriner has quite a collection of impressive titles to her name. Among them: Silver Medalist, Commonwealth Games 2006; World Cup winner, Ishigaki 2005; Hamburg 2005 and Salford 2006. Now she’s going for the big one – gold at the China Olympics, later this year, and to say she is incredibly focused is an under-statement. Her motto quoted on her website sums it up with just four little words: ‘It’s all about Beijing.’

When Ramona Belmont took away the Maori Sports Awards senior sportswomen’s category last year, it probably came as no surprise in the pool and snooker world. Ramona’s winning streak started in 2004 when she won the national women’s snooker title, and despite her youth – she still qualifies to compete in the under-21 competitions – she has barely stopped for breath since. Among her recent achievements: third in the world under-21 snooker championship 2007, held in Goa in India; runner-up at the national competition of the same category in the same year; and last year’s winner of the APA Women’s 9-Ball Recognition Award.

Voted Best Sports Programme at last year’s Air New Zealand Screen Awards, HYUNDAI CODE is an hour-long show – now in its fourth year – and filmed in front of a studio audience at Maori Television’s Auckland headquarters. Tawera Nikau and Jenny-May Coffin are joined by Warriors’ Wairangi Koopu and the ‘Brofessionals’ – aka Glen Osborne (Oz) and Matua Parkinson (Mutz) – for more news, inside stories and off-camera action with Kiwi sports stars excelling at home and abroad.
