Variety Celebrates 80 Years of Success

80 years of Variety will be celebrated next month as Auckland hosts the Variety International Convention celebrating the milestones of Variety and honouring the achievements of Variety groups worldwide.

Highlights of the five-day convention include the Academy of Awards function on Monday 12 May where Rosemary Horton will be awarded the Catherine Variety Sheridan Award for her outstanding contribution to enhancing the lives of New Zealand children.

Hosted by Frankie Stevens, and featuring iconic New Zealand performers including Elizabeth Marvelly, Jackie Clark and Shane Cortese, the two-hour entertainment extravaganza will also celebrate 80 years of Variety-The Childen's Charity.

Paediatrician Mr Percy Pease (FRCS. FRACS), will receive the Sir James Carreras Award for his tireless work to improve children’s health both in New Zealand and overseas at The Variety International Lifeline Global Programmes Luncheon on Tuesday 13 May.

At the conclusion of the convention, the prestigious Variety International Humanitarian and Heart Awards Gala Dinner on Wednesday 14 May will recognise the work of the Himalayan Trust and celebrate the life of Sir Edmund Hillary, vice-patron and long time supporter of Variety.

Featuring performances by Dame Malvina Major and Australian performer Kamahl, the Gala Dinner will also recognise Heart Awards winners from Variety groups worldwide.

Lorraine Taylor, CEO of Variety -The Childen's Charity says “It is an honour for Variety New Zealand to host delegates from around the world. The convention enables us to showcase our community activity, recognise the significant achievements of distinguished New Zealanders and to fundraise to help kiwi kids.”

The Variety international Convention runs from 10-14 May at SKYCITY Convention Centre, Auckland. Tickets are available to the public to attend the Academy of Awards and Variety International Humanitarian Gala Dinner events.
