Wellington Improvisation Troupe and The Improv Divas present…
Improv Angels: they fight improvised crime!
They found love in 'Love Possibly', and now NZ’s only all-female improv ensemble are back, taking on an adrenaline fuelled kick-ass adventure: Improv Angels: they fight improvised crime.
The Divas will take the world on an hour long improvised journey at BATS Theatre in a hair-tossing attempt to spontaneously solve the latest mysterious crime wave, lock away the super villain … and save New Zealand!
Created by players from the Wellington Improvisation Troupe (WIT) to develop women in improv, the Improv Divas have spearheaded WIT’s reputation as long form storytellers. In 2005, they created the sold out one hour romantic comedy Lovepossibly, a genre in which they generously invited the most sensitive of WIT’s leading men to play with them.
This time they plan to go it alone. “The only exception we’ve made is to allow our very own Bosley to join us,” says alpha Diva, Clare Kerrison. “Jeff Abbot on improv guitar is too cute to leave off stage.”
Bringing Improv Angels to BATS Theatre are Diva veteran Clare Kerrison, Diva incumbents Christine Brooks and Jen Mason, lighting angel Jo Eggers, plus WIT newcomers Anna Burns and Merrilee McCoy. The femme fatales are looking forward to showing super Diva, Helen Clark, that New Zealand is safer with women in the secret service too.
“We wanted to take on a genre that’s really owned by the boys,” says Jen Mason who also takes on the lads in Wellington’s wrestling scene in her spare time. “Charlie’s Angels is almost alone in blockbuster Hollywood, although women kick vampire and monster buttock on TV all the time. Plus we like those slow motion fighting moves where Cameron Diaz is all legs and heels. Yeah, we reckon we could give that a go…”
