ONE DAY SCULPTURE prepares to launch

ONE DAY SCULPTURE prepares to launch

One Day Sculpture - the major output of the Litmus Research Initiative in 2008/09 - is a cumulative series of 20 newly commissioned temporary, place-based artworks by national and international artists. Produced in partnership with curators across New Zealand, the series will be realised in Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Christchurch and Dunedin from June 2008 to June 2009.

A full list of commissioned artists, curators, commissioning partners and sponsors will be announced at the One Day Sculpture programme launch in Wellington on Friday 7 March. This follows a European launch and satellite public event at Camden Arts Centre in London on 16 January 2008.

To celebrate the programme launch, the Litmus Research Initiative presents two public events as part of the New Zealand International Arts Festival Visual Arts Programme:

Roman Ondak, Good Feelings in Good Times, 2003

Tate: Purchased with funds provided by the 2004 Outset Frieze Acquisitions Fund for the Tate 2004.

On Friday March 7th 2008, between 10am & 5pm celebrated Slovakian artist Roman Ondak will re-stage his seminal project Good Feelings in Good Times. First realised outside the Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne and adapted for Frieze Art Fair in 2004, the work will consist of a queue of people that forms across various locations in central Wellington over the course of one day.

Leading voices in contemporary art and performance will examine how artists are rethinking the concept of public sculpture. The forum will address temporary artistic responses to location; the role of performance and participation, and the capacity for temporary works to sustain permanency through the social imagination.

Chaired by visual arts advocate and arts management company Director, Rob Garrett - the panel will include Christina Barton (Director, Adam Art Gallery); Claire Doherty (UK-based curator and writer); Dorita Hannah (Head of Performance Design, Massey University College of Creative Arts); Roman Ondak (visiting artist: NZ International Arts Festival and One Day Sculpture) and Amy Howden-Chapman (Wellington-based artist: One Day Sculpture).
