Stratos Puts Asia Downunder On At Primetime
Stratos Television Provides Broader Horizons For Asia Downunder
ASIA DOWNUNDER has been a well-respected viewing favourite with Asian and non-Asian Kiwis alike since its inception in 1994. This popular long-running show is now being screened nationwide in prime time on Stratos Television. Starting March 2, the Stratos Television broadcast of the show will be on Sundays at 7pm.
In addition, Stratos will broadcast a selection of the ASIA DOWNUNDER's best segments in a series entitled REFLECTIONS OF ASIA DOWNUNDER. This weekly broadcast will commence on Saturday March 1 at 6pm. Stratos Television Chief Executive Officer Jim Blackman says the programmes have developed huge appeal among both Asian and non-Asian viewers.
"We are delighted to be bringing these to our Stratos audience. ASIA DOWNUNDER is an established programme that, along with other fully funded NZ on Air programming, has been relegated to hard-to-find viewing times. We are going to take the lead and bring the series into prime time slots - this sits perfectly with our mission to provide New Zealanders with access to a wide mix of cultural programming."
Fast-paced and always engaging, ASIA DOWNUNDER presents topical, informative and entertaining programmes exploring Asian cultures, stories, business and arts ventures in New Zealand and abroad. It takes a robust approach to all issues affecting Kiwi-based Asians, with a winning mix that includes the controversial as well as the lighter side of life: cookery, sport, fashion and "on-the-street" opinions.
ASIA DOWNUNDER is produced and presented by Korea-born journalist Melissa Lee, who grew up in Malaysia and moved to New Zealand with her family in 1988. She says broadcasting a selection of shows for Stratos Television viewers is an exciting opportunity to broaden the reach of the programme.
"As well as providing an entertaining and informative programme, our main focus with ASIA DOWNUNDER and REFLECTIONS OF ASIA DOWNUNDER is to provide a bridge that brings people and cultures closer together. The diverse cultural mix of Stratos Television's audience makes the station a perfect additional platform for the programme."
