Recognising the need for a study pathway for Māori students pursuing sporting careers in Māori communities, Dr Borell combined his expertise in sport, whakaaro Māori (Māori thinking) and te ao Māori to develop ‘Te Ao Hākinakina’, a new UC Health major focused on Māori sport.

K9 Medical Detection NZ: Breakthrough Cancer Detection Success Of K9 Medical Detection Dogs

The Dunedin-based Charitable Trust uses specially trained dogs in a controlled clinical environment to assist in the detection of cancer as an additional valuable diagnostic tool in the growing battle against cancer and other diseases.

Arts Council Nelson: Graham Hay Wins $8k Ceramic Art Award

Australia based New Zealand artist Graham Hay has won the 2024 Forsyth Barr Contemporary Ceramics Award of $8,000 with his work, Double Chamber: Mortal Coil series. Artists Julia Holden (Ōtautahi Christchurch) and Richard Stratton (Te Whanganui a Tara Wellington) both received a Judges’ Merit, taking $1,000 each.
