Symphony at the Zoo confirmed for 2009

The postponed 2 February New Zealand Symphony Orchestra concert at Auckland Zoo will now take place next summer as part of the 2009 Wild Bean Cafe ZooMusic series.

Over 40 members of the world-renowned orchestra will pair with a top Kiwi artist to bring music lovers an unforgettable evening on 15 February 2009 at what will be the orchestra’s first ever performance at a zoo.

A concert for conservation, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra concert will be helping to support a key conservation project involving Maui’s dolphin.

“We’re absolutely delighted that the orchestra will now be part of next year’s series – a concert we expect will be hugely popular with people of all ages,” says the zoo’s events and sponsorship management coordinator, Jackie Sanders. “This is a rare opportunity for Aucklanders and visitors to Auckland to experience one of this country’s most vibrant national treasures in the unique setting of the zoo. At the same time concert-goers will be helping to support one of our most endangered marine treasures.”

The orchestra’s chief executive Peter Walls says the orchestra is greatly looking forward to contributing to the ZooMusic series: “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to reach a different audience and to have some fun with some of the witty and engaging music inspired by animals. How nice too, to have families come to Auckland Zoo to look at packs of violins, woodwind pairs, and several species of brass – including the long-necked trombone!”

All Wild Bean Cafe ZooMusic customers who pre-purchased tickets from Auckland Zoo or Ticketmaster for the postponed 2 February concert are being given full refunds. Customers should contact the organisation they booked with: Auckland Zoo on (09) 360 3805, or Ticketmaster on (09) 970 9700.

In addition, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is offering these customers a special $15 voucher (for each ticket purchased), which can be used towards purchasing tickets for any New Zealand Symphony Orchestra concert in the 2008 season, including open rehearsals.
