What A Thriller
A new album may still be years in the coming, but add a few 2008 remixes to an already legendary album and for the first time since late 1984 Michael Jackson's Thriller returns to the albums list at #3 this week in a 25th Anniversary Edition. The album credited by the Guinness Book Of World Records as the biggest selling album of all time (though this is vigorously debated by music buffs) spent 11 weeks in total at #1 here during its original 1984 chart run that began late January 1983.
The set is currently logged at 11 times platinum here but has probably sold more than that over time. In total, it yielded six hit singles with a #1 (Beat It) and two #2s (The Girl Is Mine with Paul McCartney and Billie Jean) among them.
Jacko's currently at #4 on the Singles Chart too with Akon on Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 2008.
And A Grammy Helps Too
With a Grammy to their name, and new stock on record store shelves, Bret Mckenzie and Jermaine Clement crash straight back into the Singles Chart this week with their award-winning Distant Future EP, in at #9.
The Flight Of The Conchords' self-titled HBO TV show is repeating Thursday nights on Prime and is now on DVD. And They've an album due April.
Also on the Grammys, Rehab or not Amy Winehouse scooped five of the awards last week and gains five places to reach the runner-up position on this week's Album Chart, the highest placing in the 37-week run by her Back To Black album.
Dawn Raid's Back
Following the financial difficulties of last year, local R label Dawn Raid has risen from the ashes to produces its first charting Single and Album for quite a while this week.
Sweet Soul Music (not to be confused with the Stax label compilation of the same name which charted here last year) is the new album by Dawn Raid's now LA-based soulstress Aaradhna.
On it she gives her own interpretation of13 soul classics, landing her a second charting album after the #13 I Love You from 2006.
Meanwhile over on the Singles Chart members of Deceptikonz rebrand slightly as the Horsemen Family on their own Dawn Raid associated Horseman imprint with Feels Like Magic, new at #19. The track comes from My Shout: The Album and features vocals by Sweet And Irie.
The New Singles
#10 Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
Finger Eleven hail from Ontario Canada and have been together since 1994. They finally make their New Zealand chart debut this week though with Paralyzer making an impressive Top 10 debut. The cut features on their Them vs You vs Me album.
#17 Horsemen Family - Feels Like Magic

#22 Natasha Bedingfield feat. Sean Kingston - Love Like This
Her parents are expat Kiwis and her older bro Daniel was born here. She, however, is London-born and her new album Pocketful Of Sunshine comes in April. Preceding it comes this collaboration with Sean Kingston, Natasha's third Top40 hit here.
#24 Elemeno P - Baby Come On
Local Auckland band Elemono P adds a seventh hit to their Singles tally as Baby Comes On debuts at #24. It all began six years back when Fast Times In Tahoe made it to #32. Along the way have come two platinum albums - Love And Disrespect (#1 2003) and Trouble In Paradise (#2 2005), with a third set to join them later in the year.
#34 The Veronicas - Untouched
Brisbane twins Lisa Marie and Jessica Louise Origliasso were born on Christmas Day and gain their fourth New Zealand hit this week with the first track lifted from their sophomore album Hook Me Up.
#35 Snoop Dogg - Sensual Seduction
Sensual Seduction marks the 18th time Snoop Dogg has sniffed action on our Singles Chart over the past 14 years. What's My Name? (which made it to #4 in February 1994) got the ball rolling for the then Snoop Doggy Dogg. Along the way there have been 13 collaborations for Calvin Broadus whose Ego Trippin' record drops in March.
The New Albums
#17 k.d.lang - Watershed
Forty-six-year-old Canadian Kathryn Dawn Lang racks up a ninth New Zealand hit album with her highest charting set in 11 years. Fresh at #17, Watershed is her first since 2003's #48 Wonderful World (with Tony Bennett). kd has two chart-toppers, Ingenue (1992) and All You Can Eat (1995), among her tally.
#19 Aaradhna - Sweet Soul Music
