Happy New Year, we hope you are enjoying summer and 2008
so far! Here’s what we’ve got happening at Loop over the
next couple of months.
Upcoming
Recloose –
Perfect Timing
From heaving funk anthems to reclining beats, Recloose returns to reclaim all dance floors with his new studio album ‘Perfect Timing’. You might have already caught ‘The Sanctuary’, featuring Tyna’s suave vocals, or ‘Deeper Waters’ featuring Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy’s Drop) on the airwaves.
If you haven’t, get ready to get loose to Recloose, and his irresistible grooves. Recloose will tour with his live band in March/April. Click here for dates and details.
Released: February 26
Yes King – Rock This World
Yes King is the new sound of UK soul/hip hop veteran Mark Rae (Rae & Christian) and Rhys Adams. Together they shuffle pieces of Hip Hop, Dancehall, Disco, Ragga and Ska. Imports of ‘Rock This World’ on 12" vinyl are already in hot demand as people say yes please to Yes King. A bombastic album full of positive energy!
Released: March 24
Watch out for further co-operations between Mark Rae and local peeps like Module, who will be releasing his next full length later in the year.
On Tour
Paul McLaney follows up the release of ‘Diamond Side’ and rounds out summer with his friends Age Pryor and Victoria Girling-Butcher from lucid3. The gigs will feature the artists performing solo, and promise to be especially personal as they head for NZ’s smaller towns and more intimate venues.
What they're saying so far... Paul McLaney's Diamond Side
“Thoroughly recommended” - Marbecks
“McLaney continues where he left off, Diamond Side again revealing a guitarist of polished technique and a singer who possesses lyrical imagination” 4/5 Otago Daily Times
“Paul McLaney is one of New Zealand music's best-kept secrets, as well as one of it's most under-rated talents. Diamond Side provides testament to McLaney’s talent, with his unique voice booming out over some of his best tracks yet” 4.5/5 Investigate Magazine
“McLaney returns with an intimate solo offering produced in LA in which he muses on love over a sparse and warm palette of acoustic guitar.” 4/5 Waikato Times
Overseas
Adi Dick played a free show at Cargo in London on February 6 to celebrate Waitangi Day on behalf of Monteith’s and Spacific. Adi played a soulful solo set with his guitar and looping pedal which rocked the emotions of English fans and homesick Kiwis. The Waitangi Day show also featured other NZ talent which made for a special evening down at Cargo.
