Media Release

The Bro’s Are Back in Town

Funding allocated at NZ On Air’s last meeting for 2007 will ensure television comedy fans have a special Christmas present. NZ On Air has approved funding of $1,780,000 for another series of the popular animated comedy bro’Town.

“There’s no doubt bro’Town is the most successful local comedy to date,” said NZ On Air Chief Executive Jane Wrightson. “The team behind it have come up with another six-part series that is sure to amuse and entertain the strong following that it’s already built.”

The fifth series of the award-winning bro’Town will once again screen on TV3.

“bro’Town is a phenomenon,” Ms Wrightson said. “Not only has it gained a faithful and supportive audience at home, but it’s also become a favourite in Australia and further afield, with episodes being dubbed into Spanish and Portuguese for Cartoon Network Latin America, and it’s also seen in South Africa and Portugal.”

bro’Town has been a popular part of the TV3 schedule for the past few years and this year won the Best Comedy Programme category in the New Zealand Screen Awards for the third year in a row.

“The programme is a consistent high performer,” said Ms Wrightson. “We’re very pleased to have been able to support another series, and we are looking forward to seeing it on air.”

Funding was also allocated to the 2008 Comedy Gala, for prime time TV2.
