OneMail 50: OneFest Part 6 Tomorrow Night

OneMail 50

It’s getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes.

ONEFEST SERIES PART SIX – TOMORROW NIGHT!
Cash Guitar (Chris Heazlewood) and the Silver Dollars, The Futurians
& the Haunted Turnies Crew. Friday 14th December at the Crown Hotel.
Free w/ your ANZ Onecard, $10 Doorsales.

Radio One does it again: fetching Chris Heazlewood home as Cash Guitar and the Silver Dollars for Onefest Series part 6. They'll be decking the halls on the 14th of December at the Crown, and the best part is it's free for those with ANZ Onecards, and just $10 on the door for everyone else.
Heazlewood is one of NZ’s most enigmatic & influential guitarists & musicians, being the idol of every kid with a distortion pedal, guitar, home recording device & fire in the belly. Not being content with just any old backing band, Heazlewood has drafted together some of Dunedin’s most respected musicians as his rhythm section –these people being one Peter Gutteridge (The legendary front man for Snapper & a true Dunedin icon in his on right!), Todd Knudsen (current Drummer for The Chills) & Gavin Shaw (Bass player in The Puddle).

Cash Guitar and the Silver Dollars will be flanked by retro-futuristic space-invaders The Futurians. Duckling, CJA, ISO12 & Mandroid are armed with nuclear weapons of sonic destruction and will unload their jarring hypnofest until the room is total mess of ectoplasmic brain jelly tranceness. Although this is their first Dunedin appearance in over two years, The Futurians have been hitting the record button since the dawn of time with over 40 albums circulating in the global reptilian underground.

And The Haunted Turnies, normally found terrorizing your earwaves on their Monday 11pm Radio One slot, will be keeping it mashed, smashed and psychedelic in the breaks with their eclectic freak-funk.

FEATURE CD - SIGUR ROS – ‘Hvarf–Heim’ Win it all next week.
In Icelandic, the word "hvarf" means "disappeared," and the first five tracks of Sigur Rós's double CD set nearly did disappear, having remained unreleased until this collection. The inclusion of two specific tracks, "Von" (meaning "hope") and "Hafsol," will especially delight longtime SR fans; written and recorded during the group's infancy in 1995, these tracks became treasured live performances, having never been captured on disc as their expanded, evolved versions until now. The disc's second portion, "Heim"("home") is a six-song acoustic set that shows Sigur Rós in a less grandiose, more delicate light. While totally acoustic, the songs remain full-bodied, lush and lovely. There’s even the sounds of chirping birds singing along with the orchestral instruments if you listen close enough...which you will if you win this fantastic double album. Win ‘Hvarf-Heim’ all next week at 8.15am on breakfast & 5.15pm on drive from the 17th December.

ON THE RADIO...
THE LOCAL TONIGHT – THE GIDEONS
The Gideons are a messy Dunedin two piece and have just released their awkwardly titled debut album "Art For Killing Love". Get inside their uniquely weird headspace this Thursday the 13th of December when they join us on The Local for an inspired run through of their favourite New Zealand bands as well as a rare acoustical style studio performance of their new material. The Gideons on The Local with Dave, tonight, 7-9pm on the One

FRIDAY MORNING SPECTRUM / OLD FANGLED. 11am / Friday
The Friday morning music spectrum is back in full force with young Tom Bell displaying his encyclopeadic knowledge of the cool, obscure & just damn tasty music he’s had his ears on recently. Come 11am, Paris steps in for this weeks installment of ‘Old Fangled’.
Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) Brian Eno was the synth guru and best dressed glam weirdo in early 70s Roxy Music but he wasn't satisfied with that. Paris has picked his extraordinary 1974 solo album 'Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)' to tune us on to this influential and unconventional rock classic.
