Inspired by a recent
trip to the year 2099, an upcoming show at the San Francisco
Bathhouse should see Christmas parties change for the
better.
The Futuristic Christmas Show put on by Smalltime Records is going to be the Xmas party of 2007, topping all that we have seen on our whirlwind ride to 2099.
On this trip it was discovered that the only way to throw a party is with a healthy assortment of laser guns, futuristic xmas trees, life sized robots, future drinks, optical 3D viewing devices, Santa Clause piñatas, retro futuristic Vjing and high tech gadgetry all enclosed in a special dome, safe from future woes or next day hangovers.
Aside from special
effects and future aesthetics, we also need the most
futuristic sounds 2007 can provide, which is why we have
roped in three of the best bands in their fields - all
masters of the synthesizers.
Kicking off the night will be local darlings Little Pictures an uber cute electro pop trio who have received a raving 5 star review for their new EP You + Me+ My Amplifier from Groove Guide, where it was said they are "As cute as the Brunettes and as danceable as Kylie Minogue."
Claiming to have quantum leaped to the San Fran from the future, Wellington based 'future pop' band Alex The Kid are second on this futuretastic line-up. The band was named one of the best finds of 2007 in Victoria University student magazine Salient, and have been likened to Flight of the Conchords, or the "Pet Shop Boys on steroids." Their lively combination of electronica, indie and techno, animated in-between song banter (via vocoders) and Star Trek suits will surely win over a few hearts at this Xmas show.
The stars of the evening are electronic/breakbeat heavyweights Minuit, back for a quick dalliance from a secret location, where they are recording their new album in the most futuristic environment possible this side of the 2000's. Expect xmas to come early with new Minuit songs as this three piece will make you wish no matter what your future holds, they will be in it- "Music that's intentionally modern has never made the future sound so alluring as this group." - BIG DAY OUT '07
