2007 Westpac Halberg Awards

Academy Award Style ‘Red Carpet’ Treatment Planned For 2007 Westpac Halberg Awards In Christchurch

Auckland, 10 December 2007: New Zealand’s premier sporting showcase, the Westpac Halberg Awards are set to embrace the Academy Awards ‘Red Carpet’ treatment.

The Halberg Trust has confirmed that the 2007 awards in Christchurch on Tuesday February 19 will have a new-look featuring a televised awards presentation in the James Hay Theatre followed by the traditional dinner in the adjacent Christchurch Convention Centre highlighted by a special tribute to one of New Zealand’s most respected sporting icons.

Chief Executive Graeme Taylor says the Halberg Trust was keen to make their annual black-tie awards dinner, more relevant to the current environment “and we are confident that will be achieved with the programme that we have planned for the 2007 Westpac Halberg Awards next February.

“It will enable thousands of television viewers on TV ONE to enjoy an awards treatment which hasn’t been possible before, because of the constraints of combining it with our long-standing dinner format. They will see a crisp and skilfully crafted awards presentation filmed in the intimacy of the James Hay Theatre.

“Those keen to rub shoulders with our sporting achievers, will be able to do that at the Convention Centre over a relaxed dinner where we will also pay tribute to a very special New Zealander. So the Westpac Halberg Awards dinner guests will get to experience two shows for the price of one in an exciting, total sports and entertainment package!”

Tickets to the 2007 Westpac Halberg Awards dinner in Christchurch next February are available by contacting the Halberg Trust at office@halberg.co.nz.
