'MySpace’ scam lays bait for Kiwis
With many thousands of New Zealanders currently using the social networking website MySpace.com, the latest phishing [1] scam is likely to put a significant number of Kiwi’s at risk of having banking and personal information stolen.
Rachel Harrison of NetSafe says “scammers are exploiting MySpace’s current popularity and are relying on users’ naivety about following links.
What is particularly insidious about this scam is that younger family members may be unknowingly compromising their caregivers’ financial information when using the family computer to access MySpace.”
“Even with the best security software installed, computer users can still put themselves at risk by following bad links or falling for phishing scams. Keeping vigilant online is key to keeping safe.”
Information about this scam was provided by young people working with NetSafe to help kiwis stay safer online.
