5 - FRIDAY MORNING MUSIC SPECTRUM feat ‘OLD
FANGLED’
Paris takes time off from the professional
golf circuit to present this weeks Friday Morning Spectrum.
Joining her will be the lovely Amy – stepping up for
another edition ‘Old Fangled’. This week Amy takes a
look at a Richard Hell & the Voidoids’ ‘Blank
Generation’. Along with Patti Smith and Tom Verlaine,
Richard Hell was one of the great punk-poets to emerge from
the ferment that was CBGB in the late seventies. After
teaming up with Verlaine in an early incarnation of
Television and joining Johnny Thunders in the Heartbreakers,
Richard Hell founded the Voidoids and released Blank
Generation in 1977. The music was jittery and jagged, the
lyrics were wild and witty … and legend has it that Hell
introduced the safety pin and ripped t-shirt to punk style.
Join Amy on Old Fangled as she shares fun facts and fine
tunes from one of American punk’s seminal albums, tomorrow
at 11am in the Friday Morning Music Spectrum.

SELECTION – ‘This Heat’ w/ Grant McDougall. Sunday
11th November, 6 – 8pm,
The United Kingdom’s This

that era. The show will focus on prime This Heat songs, plus
live tracks and other rarities, related solo albums, plus
tracks from a few bands they gigged and recorded with, such
as The Pop Group and the Raincoats. There will also be a
song or two by bands influenced by them such as Dunedin's
own Dead C. For an insight into some truly adventurous

8 - NEXT WEEK ON THE
LOCAL
Next week The Local hosts highly regarded sound
engineer Dale Cotton in the studio. Having come to
prominence as the 'fourth member' of High Dependency Unit,
his recording (and engineering) talents have been in demand
by New Zealand's discerning underground and has lead to
recording the likes of Die! Die! Die! and (more recently)
Hannah Curwood. 2003 Also saw the release of his first solo
record under the moniker Conray, a surprising blend to those
of us expecting something more akin to what he was known for
recording from other bands. Dale was also head hunted to
remaster the infamously gutless Toy Love album, which he
lists as a career highlight. We'll try to find out his other
favourite New Zealand music when he joins us live in the
studio this Thursday.
Join Dale Cotton on The Local with
Dave, next Thursday the 15th November from 7-9pm
